QuietText on iPhone: texts from unknown senders sorted into Junk, Promotions and Transactions

How it works

Four short screens of tutorial in the app, and you can skip them. Here is the short version.

Sorted into three folders

Scams go to Junk. Sales go to Promotions. Codes, orders and reminders go to Transactions.

QuietText only looks at texts from unknown senders: SMS, MMS and RCS texts from numbers that are not in your Contacts and that you have not replied to. Everything else is left alone.

Rules you can read and tune

Every rule is listed in plain words. Switch a group off, add your own words, keep allow and block lists.

Scam patterns cover fake delivery problems, “verify your account” lures, unpaid tolls and fines, crypto schemes, loan and debt offers, prizes and gifts, and too-good job offers. Everyday groups cover codes and banking, orders and deliveries, appointments, your phone carrier, sales and coupons.

Test before you trust it

Paste a text into the Test tab and see the verdict and why.

The Test tab runs the same rules the filter uses on your real texts, so you can check a message, add a word, and check it again. Testing never touches your actual messages.

Private by design

Every text is checked on your iPhone. Nothing is sent anywhere.

No server, no account, no analytics. The App Store privacy label for QuietText is Data Not Collected.

What QuietText is not

We would rather you know before you buy. QuietText:

  • Does not filter iMessage. It handles SMS, MMS and RCS texts only.
  • Does not block calls or block phone numbers. Version 1 is texts only.
  • Does not touch your contacts, or anyone you have replied to. Those texts are never sent through the filter.
  • Does not use the cloud. No server, no account, no sync. Your rules live on your phone.

It also cannot delete texts. It sorts them into folders in Messages so spam stops mixing with real conversations.

Your texts never leave your phone

When a text arrives from an unknown sender, iOS passes it to the QuietText filter on your iPhone. The filter checks it against your rules and answers with a folder. That is the whole trip.

QuietText does not use the optional network lookup Apple offers filter apps, so there is no server on the other end. It does not keep a copy of your real texts.

  • No server and no account
  • No analytics or tracking
  • Rules stored on your phone only
  • App Store privacy label: Data Not Collected

Turn it on

iOS does not let any app switch a message filter on for you. You do it once in Settings, and it takes about a minute. The Home tab in the app shows these same steps for your iOS version.

iOS 17

Settings › Messages › Unknown & Spam

  1. Turn on Filter Unknown Senders.
  2. Tap SMS Filtering.
  3. Choose QuietText.

iOS 18

Settings › Apps › Messages › Unknown & Spam

  1. Turn on Filter Unknown Senders.
  2. Tap SMS Filtering.
  3. Choose QuietText.

iOS 26

Messages › Filters › Manage Filtering › Text Message Filter

  1. Open Manage Filtering from Filters in Messages.
  2. Under Text Message Filter, choose QuietText.

Only one filter app can be active at a time. If you already use another text filter, QuietText replaces it when you choose it. The iOS 26 steps follow Apple’s support instructions; menu wording can shift slightly between updates.
